Description: This is the first in a series of classes designed to teach spinning on a spinning wheel. In this class, we will learn the parts of your wheel and their functions, including the pulley/whorls and tension system. We will explore how adjustments to these systems feel to the spinner through spinning wheel games and why you might make various adjustments during spinning to control twist and uptake of the yarn.

Materials: A spinning wheel in good working order (meaning that the bobbins move freely on the shaft, everything turns when the treadles are pushed, nothing falls apart during spinning and the drive band is in good condition) is required; at least 1 bobbin compatible with your wheel, and a ball of yarn (2 or more ply, 50g) that you don’t really care about.
